“When you are not heard, don’t speak louder, stop speaking instead”
I meant that in a literal way as that is what I did in one of the Grade 7 classes I handled on April 18, 2023. I always knew they are like so hard headed that if they decided to not listen, that will be their mood all throughout the session. I managed to tame them a little bit before but on this day, I think they are even harder to handle than before. Added to that, their period on the subject I am teaching was shortened and it makes them so eager to finish.
In the middle of the discussion, I noticed how my CT left to run some errands and at that moment, the students decided to test my patience. For the first time, I did not speak for five minutes straight and just stared at them from the front. It worked. And somehow after that, the noise is minimized and the lesson objectives were met even with the shortened time period. Sadly tho I wasn’t able to have a photo with them because time I already up.
Children these days are no longer threatened or afraid of loud voices or yelling or screaming because they will just brush it off. I don’t know if it works for everyone but I do think that the more I show them that they are pissing me off, the more they want to anger me.
