Follow the Instructions

Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is incorrect.

So, on the 7th day of March 2023, I again am the facilitator of the quiz for the next two sections of Grade 7 and this time, I have no practice to worry about unlike the previous quizzes where I have to deal with a chaotic class because they are hyped up for their dance. To start, the first class begin with the usual prayer, attendance then a short brief of the quiz. I then asked them to bring out their answer sheets and arrange their chairs. After their quiz, we checked their papers and as expected of the science section, they have clarifications on the answers given by my CT. Fortunately for me, I know the topics in the quiz and how to clarify their queries. I have a few students who raised questions regarding the answers as they seem to disagree with it but because I know the answer and the explanation for it, the checking also became their review. Unfortunately tho, there are few students who did not follow the instructions to write TRUE or FALSE and instead wrote T or F.

On the second class, the preliminaries went by without a hiccup and so as the quiz. I again reiterated that they should not write on the test questionnaires and also to write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is wrong. My fault tho is that I didn’t write the instructions on the board just like the first three quizzes I facilitated because I thought they heard me as I repeated the instructions at least three times. When we were checking, we’re also having a review as after they gave their answer, I will discuss the answer with them. When we got to the Binary test, I told them to mark the papers wrong if they wrote T or F and the reaction was wild. Everyone kept telling me that I told them to write T or F or TRUE or FALSE. I can clearly remember saying to write the word as that is the most important part of the test. I even asked my CT and even he said I was correct. Some students also agreed with me. I felt bad for the students who got the whole five items wrong but I can’t consider as the same thing happened to the other classes.

Lastly for this day, I managed to witness one section in their final performance and I am hoping, really hoping that my CT will give me the go signal that I can have my final demo during their Performance Task. The class begin with the attendance checking and it took a good 20 minutes because most of the class is not present. After that, the teacher allowed them to finalize their Panel Discussion for the next 40 minutes. I assisted with the students in their practice, answering their questions here and there and helping them with their script. One group however lost their script and they needed to re-write it on the spot. Despite not having time to practice, they impressed me as they’re one of the few groups who delivered a good performance.

Indeed, don’t wave the white flag just yet as if you really want to accomplish something, nothing is impossible with hardwork just as that group demonstrated. In addition, the fact that I must not make assumptions as I am handling Grade 7 students. They can be too focused or not and even in a quiz, I must not assume that they understood what I said. I still need to repeat it again and again because I must make sure that everyone followed my instructions.
