I am prepared and I know I already have prepared myself for my teaching for the 6th session of Grade 7 in the afternoon of March 03, 2023, however what I’m not prepared for was the fact that the teacher observing me was not my CT and that fact alone led me to overthink things and in the end, I think I messed up again as I am focused on the teacher and not the students.
My class began with the usual sequence of events from greetings to the prayer then the attendance. My springboard went well as well as the preparation for the lesson. What I didn’t expect tho was for the students to not be able to read a poem well. My mistake was that I assumed they already know it but to my surprise, they are not that excelling in reading so I read first and then they follow. After that, I began to ask questions and I am happy to say that I managed to connect their answers to the lesson and managed to discuss to them the poem. During the literary focus, that’s when I think they began to slip away as after we discussed the sound devices and imagery, I noticed how they are no longer with me in the lesson. I checked the time and unfortunately, our sharing in the poem went too long so instead of making them give examples, I instead allowed them to have the activities. After collecting their papers, I asked for their learnings but to my surprise, a few of them literally said they learned nothing and I question myself, what went wrong? Those students recited and even shared during the discussion but now, they said they learned nothing?
At the end of the day, I am happy to report that I finished my 12th hour of actual teaching and I hope I am well prepared enough for my final demo and I hope I can catch up with the date of our off campus teaching.
